For centuries, furniture has been brown, with the exception of a few beautiful pieces that were probably kept in the “good room” in the house, they were fairly boring, dark and functional. This kind of furniture was passed from one generation to the next, reused and reloved by a new generation for as long as the furniture held together in one piece.

The problem now is that this furniture no longer fits with our modern lives. It looks dark and oppressive  when placed into bright, modern homes, and the furniture that our grandparents generation cherished now seems to be coming to the end of its road, replaced by furniture we choose from catalogues, magazines and showrooms, often of a quality that will not stand the test of time.

The picture above shows a panel detail of a wardrobe I hope to revamp with a lick of paint and some imagination. At this stage I have no idea if this will work or not. I’ve been reading magazines and doing online searches, trying to figure out a style I want to copy, and it has been fun! I think at least trying to give this dark wardrobe with its beautiful panel detail a second chance is exciting, and hopefully in a while I’ll have some fantastic before and after pictures to show you, and this wardrobe will be loved and used for many years to come, and if I do a really good job I might even be able to pass it on to another generation! Life Goals!!!

If you’ve done anything similar I’d love to see your before and after pics. Feel free to send them in.
