Zilch is a noun, meaning zero or nothing, and that is exactly what we are aiming for. When we are thinking about, talking about and protecting our environment so much of what we do is aiming for zero. We dream of zero litter on our streets, zero food waste in our bins, zero discharges to our streams and rivers, zero particle emissions to our atmosphere, zero carbon emissions, the list goes on and on. When we were envisioning GoZilch.com we saw a website, webshop, and resource that helps people get that little bit closer to zero. Zero often feels unattainable (in the 1980’s mobile phones were a dream, now look at that smart phone in your pocket!). Every time we inch a little closer to that magic number we are improving our lives, the lives of those around us, and our environment. We all know countless environmental sceptics, but the idea of aiming for zero can appeal to even the most close minded of sceptics. Ultimately waste means inefficiencies, and with inefficiencies come costs. Aiming for zero is a way for the environmental movement to embrace the mainstream and the sceptics by appealing to the things that often matter most to them, their pockets. Including these groups in our mission to make the world a better place will get us all that bit closer to zero, that bit faster. Everything we do at GoZilch.com will be with the intention of helping someone edge that little bit closer to the magic Zero.
